We process 1.1M+ API calls/month, serve developers in 50+ countries, and won the Circle USDC Agent Hackathon.

The Role

You will build and ship BlockRun's core infrastructure — the gateway that routes millions of LLM and data API requests, processes USDC micropayments, and serves developers globally. You'll work across the entire stack: from the smart routing engine to the data marketplace, from on-chain payment verification to API proxy performance.

This is an early-stage startup. You'll ship code to production daily, talk to users directly, and have outsized impact on a product that real developers depend on.

What You'll Do

Gateway infrastructure: Maintain and improve the x402 payment proxy that handles 1.1M+ calls/month across Base and Solana
Smart routing: Evolve the request classifier and routing engine for both LLM and data APIs — add new models, tune scoring weights, improve fallback chains
New integrations: Onboard new LLM providers, data sources, and partner APIs as the ecosystem evolves
Developer experience: Build and improve dashboards, SDK (Python + TypeScript), CLI tools, and API documentation
On-chain payments: Work with USDC, x402 protocol, wallet authentication on both EVM (Base) and Solana
Performance: Optimize latency — every millisecond of overhead compounds across millions of requests
Reliability: Build monitoring, alerting, and fallback systems. When a provider goes down at 3am, the routing should handle it automatically

You Should Be

AI native: You use AI coding tools daily (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot). You ship faster because of them. You understand what developers want from an LLM API
Full stack capable: You can build a React dashboard in the morning and debug a WebSocket proxy issue in the afternoon
Systems thinker: You understand latency budgets, connection pooling, rate limiting, and why a 50ms overhead matters at scale
Crypto-comfortable: You've worked with wallets, on-chain transactions, or smart contracts before. You don't need to be a Solidity expert, but you should understand how USDC transfers work
Self-directed: Small team, fast pace. You pick what to build next based on what users need and what's broken

Nice to Have

Experience building API gateways or proxy servers
Open-source contribution history
Experience with LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, etc.)
Solana development experience
Experience with payment systems (fiat or crypto)
